  • 1 ¾ cups Hot Water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick baking spray.
  2. Whisk together the dry cake ingredients in a large mixing bowl until uniform.
  3. Pour in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until a thick batter forms.
  4. Fold in the chopped nuts if using.
  5. Spread the thick cake batter evenly into the greased baking dish.
  6. Toss together the brown sugar and remaining cocoa powder, then sprinkle it over the batter.
  7. Carefully pour the hot water over the top without stirring.
  8. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the top is set.
