Description
Delicious Mexican chicken tamales made with masa dough and seasoned shredded chicken, wrapped in corn husks and steamed to perfection.
Ingredients

- 4 cups masa harina
- 2 cups warm water or chicken broth
- 1 cup lard or vegetable shortening
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 cups shredded chicken
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp oregano
- Corn husks (for wrapping)
Instructions
- Prepare the corn husks by soaking them in warm water for at least 30 minutes.
- Mix masa harina with warm water or broth, lard, salt, and baking powder until smooth.
- Shred cooked chicken and season with cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, and oregano.
- Spread 2-3 tablespoons of masa on the center of a corn husk.
- Add a spoonful of chicken filling in the center of the masa.
- Fold the corn husk over the masa and filling, then fold the pointed end up to enclose the tamale.
- Steam for 1 to 1.5 hours, ensuring the masa pulls away from the husk when done.
Notes
Using banana leaves or parchment paper is a great alternative for wrapping if corn husks are unavailable. Customize spices according to your taste for a personalized flavor.
