Description
A delightful dessert with a unique three-layer texture: creamy custard, fluffy cake, and a delicate top layer, enhanced with a gentle flavor of vanilla.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 2 cups lukewarm milk
- 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
- 4 large eggs, separated
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- Beat the egg whites in a clean bowl until stiff peaks form and set aside.
- Beat the egg yolks with the powdered sugar until the mixture is pale, light, and fluffy.
- Incorporate the melted butter and water into the egg yolk mixture, beating for about 2 minutes until well blended.
- Add the flour and mix until fully combined.
- Slowly pour in the lukewarm milk while mixing, followed by stirring in the vanilla extract. The batter will be very thin, which is just right.
- Gently fold in the beaten egg whites into the batter in thirds, ensuring it remains light and airy.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 40-60 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and its center has a slight jiggle.
- Allow the cake to cool completely before dusting generously with powdered sugar.
Notes
For cleaner slices, chill the cake for an hour before serving. Ensure egg whites are at room temperature for better volume.
