A delicious fusion of Philly cheesesteak and sloppy joes, perfect for gatherings and packed with flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lb ground beef (85/15 recommended)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 1 small red bell pepper, diced (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 4–6 sandwich rolls or hamburger buns
- Butter, for toasting buns (optional)
- Optional toppings: extra cheese, pickled jalapeños, sautéed mushrooms
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and season with salt and pepper. Break the meat into small crumbles as it cooks until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Add the diced onion and bell peppers to the beef. Sauté until softened and slightly caramelized. Stir in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Add the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and tomato paste. Stir to combine. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir well. Cook for another 1–2 minutes.
- Pour in the beef broth, stir, and bring to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat and cook uncovered until the mixture thickens into a saucy consistency.
- Lay the slices of cheese on top of the beef mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid until cheese melts. Fold cheese into the mixture until creamy.
- Optionally, butter the buns and toast them until golden brown.
- Scoop a generous portion of the cheesy beef mixture onto each bun and serve hot, optionally topped with extra cheese or jalapeños.
Notes
Customize toppings to suit your taste. Use high-quality beef broth and cheese for the best flavor. Consider adding hot sauce for heat.
