Description

A delicious fusion of Philly cheesesteak and sloppy joes, perfect for gatherings and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef (85/15 recommended)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small red bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 46 sandwich rolls or hamburger buns
  • Butter, for toasting buns (optional)
  • Optional toppings: extra cheese, pickled jalapeños, sautéed mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and season with salt and pepper. Break the meat into small crumbles as it cooks until browned. Drain excess grease.
  2. Add the diced onion and bell peppers to the beef. Sauté until softened and slightly caramelized. Stir in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Add the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and tomato paste. Stir to combine. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir well. Cook for another 1–2 minutes.
  4. Pour in the beef broth, stir, and bring to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat and cook uncovered until the mixture thickens into a saucy consistency.
  5. Lay the slices of cheese on top of the beef mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid until cheese melts. Fold cheese into the mixture until creamy.
  6. Optionally, butter the buns and toast them until golden brown.
  7. Scoop a generous portion of the cheesy beef mixture onto each bun and serve hot, optionally topped with extra cheese or jalapeños.

Notes

Customize toppings to suit your taste. Use high-quality beef broth and cheese for the best flavor. Consider adding hot sauce for heat.
