Description

A comforting Hawaiian dish featuring white rice topped with a savory hamburger patty, a fried egg, and rich brown gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups short-grain white rice
  • 1 lb 80/20 ground beef
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Combine the rinsed rice with water in a pot, bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. Mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder. Form into 4 patties.
  4. Cook the patties in a skillet over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes per side.
  5. In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour to make a roux for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Whisk in beef broth gradually, stirring until thickened for about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Fry the eggs sunny-side up in a non-stick pan for 3-4 minutes.
  8. Assemble by placing rice on a plate, topping with a patty, a fried egg, and pouring gravy over everything.

Notes

Feel free to substitute ground turkey for a leaner patty or experiment with different rice varieties.
