- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/3 cup bourbon
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 4 chicken breasts, thighs, or wings
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Olive oil, for grilling or baking
Instructions
- Whisk together honey, bourbon, barbecue sauce, minced garlic, chopped onion, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper in a bowl.
- Place the chicken pieces in a resealable bag or dish and pour the marinade over it.
- Seal the bag or cover the dish; refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (375°F to 400°F).
- Remove chicken from the marinade and let excess drip off.
- Grill chicken for about 5-7 minutes per side, basting during the last few minutes with reserved marinade.
- Check internal temperature to reach 165°F.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) for oven method.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet and sear chicken skin-side down for 3-4 minutes.
- Transfer to a baking sheet, brush with marinade, and bake for 25-30 minutes, basting every 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven when internal temp reaches 165°F.
