- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and baking soda in a bowl.
- Cream together the butter and brown sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the molasses, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan.
- Beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a separate bowl until smooth.
- Spread the cream cheese frosting over the cooled bars, cut into squares, and enjoy!
Notes
For added flavor, sprinkle extra cinnamon or nutmeg on top of the frosting.
