  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1½ cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream, optional garnish
  • Chocolate shavings, optional garnish
  • Extra coconut, optional garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust – Mix chocolate cookie crumbs with melted butter and press firmly into a pie dish. Chill in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
  2. Make the chocolate cream filling – In a saucepan, whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and egg yolks. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in chopped chocolate and vanilla. Mix until smooth and pour into the prepared crust. Let cool slightly, then refrigerate.
  3. Make the coconut-pecan topping – In a saucepan, combine evaporated milk, brown sugar, butter, and egg yolks. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in shredded coconut, chopped pecans, and vanilla. Let cool.
  4. Assemble – Spread the coconut-pecan topping evenly over the chilled chocolate filling.
  5. Chill – Refrigerate for at least 240 minutes until fully set.

Notes

Serve chilled and garnish with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or extra coconut for an indulgent treat.
