  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • Crushed peppermint candy canes (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy in another bowl.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the dark chocolate chips.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers remain chewy.
  9. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with crushed peppermint candy canes while still warm.
  10. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
