Description

A delightful combination of classic crème brûlée and French toast, perfect for brunch or a weekend treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Additional granulated sugar for caramelizing
  • Fresh berries or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the brioche or challah bread into thick slices and place them in a greased baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt in a bowl.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, making sure they are well-coated.
  5. Cover the dish with foil and let it soak in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best results.
  6. Remove the foil and bake for 30-35 minutes until the custard is set.
  7. Sprinkle more granulated sugar on top of the bread, and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden and crispy.
  8. Serve warm, optionally topped with fresh berries or whipped cream.

Notes

Serve with crispy bacon or fresh fruit for a complete meal. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
