- 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Additional granulated sugar for caramelizing
- Fresh berries or whipped cream for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the brioche or challah bread into thick slices and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt in a bowl.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, making sure they are well-coated.
- Cover the dish with foil and let it soak in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best results.
- Remove the foil and bake for 30-35 minutes until the custard is set.
- Sprinkle more granulated sugar on top of the bread, and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden and crispy.
- Serve warm, optionally topped with fresh berries or whipped cream.
Notes
Serve with crispy bacon or fresh fruit for a complete meal. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
