Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee or hot water
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Dark chocolate shards or triangles
  • Melted white chocolate for web design
  • Chocolate truffles or frosting swirls

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth, then slowly stir in hot coffee for a rich batter.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the cake pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cakes cool completely before assembling.
  5. Beat the butter until creamy for the frosting. Add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, and vanilla extract. Beat until fluffy.
  6. Layer and frost the cake generously with chocolate frosting and smooth the sides.
  7. Heat the heavy cream until steaming and pour over chocolate chips for ganache. Stir until glossy.
  8. Pour the ganache over the top of the cake, gently guiding drips down the sides.
  9. Pipe frosting swirls across the center and decorate with strawberries and chocolate shards.
  10. Pipe melted white chocolate lines and drag a toothpick for web design.
  11. Chill the cake for 20–30 minutes before slicing to ensure clean layers.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
