Description

A rich dessert that combines a light cake with creamy custard and a luscious chocolate glaze, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 3 cups whole milk (for custard)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (for custard)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for custard)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for custard)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Beat the softened butter and sugar in a separate large bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and 3/4 cup whole milk, mixing until just smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 22–26 minutes, or until lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool completely, then slice it horizontally into two thin layers.
  8. For the custard filling, whisk the sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan. Slowly add the remaining 3 cups of whole milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thick and creamy.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract. Let the custard cool slightly.
  10. Spread the custard over the bottom cake layer and place the second layer on top.
  11. Heat the heavy cream until steaming and pour it over the chocolate chips. Let it sit for 2 minutes before stirring until smooth.
  12. Pour the chocolate glaze over the cake, smoothing it to the edges.
  13. Chill the cake for at least 120 minutes before slicing into squares.

Notes

Serve with fresh berries or alongside vanilla ice cream for added indulgence. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days.
