Indulge in these decadent chocolate cupcakes filled and frosted with luscious caramel.
Ingredients

- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup of buttermilk
- 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of boiling water
- 1/2 cup of caramel sauce (for filling and topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the egg, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is well-combined.
- Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow them to cool completely.
- Once cooled, use a small knife to cut a circle at the top of each cupcake and remove a portion of the cake to create a well.
- Fill each well with caramel sauce and replace the cut-out piece.
- Frost the top of each cupcake with additional caramel sauce and optionally sprinkle with cocoa powder.
Notes
Store cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. For longer storage, refrigerate them well-covered to maintain moisture.
