Description

A spicy and smoky twist on the classic bourbon chicken, featuring tender chicken thighs marinated in a bourbon-based sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup bourbon (or apple juice for a non-alcoholic version)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp chili paste (or crushed red pepper flakes)
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, mix the bourbon (or apple juice), soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, chili paste, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil. Add the chicken thighs to the mixture, making sure they’re fully coated. Let the chicken marinate in the refrigerator for at least an hour, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to develop.
  2. Cook the chicken: Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side until fully cooked. Set the chicken aside.
  3. Simmer the sauce: In the same pan, pour the remaining marinade and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer until it thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Coat the chicken: Slice the cooked chicken and toss it in the thickened sauce until fully coated.
  5. Serve: Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve the chicken over rice or with steamed vegetables.
