Description

A delightful dessert that layers rich chocolate cake with luscious cherries and creamy pudding, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • One 9×13 chocolate cake or brownie, baked
  • 30 ounces cherry pie filling
  • 4 ounces kirsch or cherry liqueur (or cherry juice for non-alcoholic version)
  • 2 boxes chocolate pudding (90 grams each)
  • 1½ cups cold heavy whipping cream
  • 24 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Fresh cherries (for garnishing)
  • Shaved chocolate (for garnishing)
  • Chocolate sprinkles (for garnishing)
  • Icing sugar or cocoa powder (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Bake the chocolate cake according to the package directions. Cool completely and cut into 1” cubes.
  2. Prepare the pudding according to package instructions and allow to cool.
  3. Combine heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Mix until stiff peaks form.
  4. Assemble by placing half of the cake cubes in a trifle bowl, pressing down slightly. Drizzle half of the kirsch if using, followed by half of the pudding, half of the cherries, and half of the whipped cream. Repeat layers.
  5. Chill in the fridge for 1-4 hours or overnight. Garnish before serving.

Notes

Serve in individual glasses for elegance or in a large trifle dish for a communal style. Cover and refrigerate leftovers for 2-3 days.
