Description
Delightful bite-sized treats combining the sweetness of apples and rich caramel, perfect for desserts or snacks.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough or 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 8 soft caramel candies or 8 teaspoons of thick caramel sauce
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (for coating)
- ½ cup caramel sauce (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- Pinch of sea salt (optional)
Instructions
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced apples and stir for about 3 minutes.
- Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, stirring for another 4–5 minutes.
- Sprinkle in the flour and mix until the mixture looks glossy. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow it to cool.
- Roll out the biscuit dough into 4-inch circles or cut the puff pastry into squares.
- Spoon 1 tablespoon of the apple filling into the center of each piece of dough, adding a caramel candy or a teaspoon of caramel sauce on top.
- Fold the dough over the filling, pinching the edges to seal them.
- Roll each ball gently to form a smooth shape and place them seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the bombs with melted butter and bake for 14-18 minutes or until golden.
- If using an air fryer, preheat it to 350°F (175°C) and air fry for about 7-9 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix the sugar with cinnamon. After baking, brush each warm bomb with melted butter and roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Heat the caramel sauce and heavy cream over low heat until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the warm bombs right before serving.
